There are two types of email aliases that we can create.

1) To create inboxes for specific clients. Ex: partnership_billing@ed-ops.com

The new markets team occasionally likes to setup a generic inbox.  When a specialist transitions, the alias can be passes from one edops staff member to another without notifying all of the vendors. Both the tech team and the user needs to be involved in the administration.

Tech team steps:

  1. Log in to admin.google.com
  2. Navigate to staff member's page
  3. Select user information > Alternate email address (email alias) > Add alternate email

User steps:

  1. On your computer, open Gmail
  2. In the top right, click settings >  See all settings
  3. Click the Accounts tab
  4. In the “Send mail as” section, click Add another email address
  5. Enter your name and the address you want to send from
  6. Test: For a personal account, send an email to aliasname@ed-ops.com and see if it arrives in your inbox.

2) To create an alternate email to yourself. Ex josh+lastpass@ed-ops.com

Sometimes you need a secondary email for yourself. As an example, you previous used your email for a website (ex: lastpass or git) and you lost access to that site and can't use your original email address. You can make up an infinite number of aliases using the '+' method.

By default, these will all deliver to josh@ed-ops.com:

josh+this@ed-ops.com

josh+is@ed-ops.com

josh+socool@ed-ops.com
