How to destroy an FRT real good with no chance of recovery
1. Open the Excel file in gsheets by double-clicking on the icon.
2. If you edit anything in the workbook, it will give you a warning dialog box.
3. Laugh and ignore the warning.
4. Gsheets will remove named ranges, conditional formatting, buttons, etc
5. When you open it again in Excel, the setup tab will look like this (Yellow is where the buttons are supposed to be)
Is it possible to recover from this?
I mean yeahh...it's possible to recover from this, but it's quite time-consuming and error-prone.
- Start with a fresh, new template
- Paste in the IS1, BS1, and budget.
- Copy in payroll.
- Copy in the entire accounts tab. Use Search/Replace to remove all the external links: payroll tab, A/R, etc
- Hunt down any other changes that were made to the other tabs, including grant detail
- Reconcile the net income and days of cash between the damaged workbook and the new one for quality control
- Give yourself a hand
