SOLUTION #1: Remove Google Drive's Real-Time Presence in Microsoft Office
Google Drive has an excellent feature called "Real-time Presence in Microsoft Office". It allows users of google drive to know if someone else is currently editing a document that they are working on. When this feature is off, you can not confirm that you and your associate aren't editing the same document simultaneously.
While the concept of the feature is terrific, it can dramatically slow down Excel and Chrome.
If you see this error message: "Microsoft Excel is waiting for another application to complete an OLE action." This is definitely slowing down your computer!!!
Here are the steps to disable "Real-time Presence in Microsoft Office" from Google Drive.
In the bottom right corner of my computer, click the more ^ carrot on the taskbar and then click the rainbow Google Drive icon
Click Settings (Gear Icon) and then click Preferences.
At the top right, click Setting (Another Gear Icon)
Uncheck the See if someone else is editing a shared Microsoft Office file box.
Click Done.
Click the blue Restart Now button
After you turn this feature off, remember it's vital to now be more careful about simultaneously editing documents with your colleagues. This can lead to destructive edits.
